What makes a good repair estimate

  • The customer's concern in their own words, so they know you listened.
  • Each repair on its own line, labour and parts together, so the customer can see what each fix costs.
  • What is urgent and what can wait. Customers trust a shop that says "this can wait until next visit".
  • An estimated total with tax, so there are no surprises at pickup.
  • A valid-until date, because parts prices change.
  • The customer's signature approving the work before you start.

Moibay texts your estimate to the customer. They see photos from the inspection, approve each repair on its own and sign on their phone.

Questions shops ask

Is this estimate template free?

Yes. Fill it in on this page and print or save it as a PDF as often as you like, or download the blank PDF. No signup and no email needed.

Why should the customer sign the estimate?

A signed estimate is the customer approving the work and the price before you start. It protects you if there is a disagreement later about what was agreed.

What if the job costs more than the estimate?

Contact the customer and get their approval before doing extra work. Some provinces have rules about written estimates and how far a final bill can go over the estimate, so check the consumer protection rules for your province.

How long should an estimate be valid?

Many shops use 30 days, because parts prices change. Write the date on the estimate so there is no confusion.
