1Pick what to offer

You can turn on as many as you like. Here is when each one makes sense:

  • Stripe: card, Apple Pay and Google Pay, plus pay later. The easiest place to start.
  • Square: if you already take cards with Square and want everything in one place.
  • Elavon: if your shop already has an Elavon (Converge) merchant account.
  • Interac e-Transfer: Canada only. No processing fee from Moibay, but you confirm each payment yourself.
  • PayPal: for customers who like paying with PayPal. You confirm each payment yourself.

To get there: sign in to Moibay, click Settings in the sidebar, then Payments & Accounting.

2Card payments with Stripe

Already have a Stripe account? Just sign in with it when Stripe opens. Nothing else to prepare.

New to Stripe? Stripe will create an account for you during setup. Have these ready: your business details, the bank account you want paid into, and photo ID.

  1. In Payments & Accounting, find Card Payments (Stripe) and click Connect.
  2. Stripe opens. Sign in to your Stripe account, or create one.
  3. If you are creating a new account, answer Stripe's questions about your business and add your bank account. Stripe needs these before it can pay you.
  4. Stripe sends you back to Moibay. The box now says Connected.
  5. Make sure Show on invoices is ticked, then click Save settings.

Customers now see a card option on every invoice. Depending on their phone or browser, Stripe may also show Apple Pay, Google Pay or Link. You can turn those on or off in your Stripe Dashboard under Settings, then Payment methods.

When does the money arrive?

Stripe pays out to your bank on its own schedule, usually within a few business days. You can see every payout in your Stripe Dashboard.

3Pay later with Klarna, Affirm and Afterpay

Pay later lets a customer split a big repair into payments. You get the full amount up front, usually the next business day. The provider collects the payments and takes the risk if the customer stops paying. The fee is a few percent higher than a card payment.

What you need: Stripe connected (see above).

Step 1, in Stripe (one time):

  1. Sign in at dashboard.stripe.com with the Stripe account you connected to Moibay.
  2. Click the gear icon at the top right for Settings, then click Payment methods.
  3. Find Klarna, Affirm and Afterpay (Clearpay). Click Turn on next to each one. Stripe may ask a few questions about your business first.

Step 2, in Moibay:

  1. Under Card Payments (Stripe), tick Offer pay later.
  2. A box opens with the same Stripe steps. Tick I turned on Klarna, Affirm and Afterpay in Stripe, then click Turn on pay later.
  3. Click Save settings.

Smallest bill that can use pay later: leave it empty to offer pay later on every bill. Enter an amount, like 500, and only bills of $500 or more show it. Smaller bills show your other ways to pay.

Use Stripe for pay later only: tick this if you take cards somewhere else, like Elavon. Stripe will then only take Klarna, Affirm and Afterpay, and regular card payments through Stripe will not work.

Pay later not showing on an invoice?

Klarna, Affirm and Afterpay each have their own limits, so one may not show on a very small or very large bill. If none of them show, or Stripe says Moibay manages your payment methods and there is no Turn on button, email [email protected] and we will switch them on for you.

4Card payments with Square

What you need: a Square account that can take online payments.

  1. In Payments & Accounting, find Square and click Connect.
  2. Square opens. Sign in with your Square account.
  3. Square asks you to allow Moibay to take payments and read your business profile. Click Allow.
  4. Square sends you back to Moibay. The box now shows Square as connected.
  5. Make sure Show on invoices is ticked, then click Save settings.

Payments land in your Square account and mark the invoice paid on their own.

5Card payments with Elavon

What you need: an Elavon Converge account with online (card not present) payments turned on, and an API user. Elavon support can confirm both for you.

Step 1, get your details from Converge:

  1. Sign in to your Converge account at convergepay.com.
  2. Open Employees and click the user named apiUser. If there is none, ask Elavon support to create an API user for you.
  3. Copy the Account ID from the top right corner. This is your Merchant ID.
  4. Copy the User ID from the User Information section. It is usually apiUser.
  5. Click Show PIN and copy the PIN.

Step 2, let Moibay connect to Elavon:

  1. Email [email protected] and ask for the Moibay server address.
  2. In Converge, go to Settings, then Fraud Prevention Rules, then API IP Address Allowed List, and add that address. Elavon support can also add it for you.

Step 3, in Moibay:

  1. Find Elavon (Converge) and click Connect.
  2. Enter your Merchant ID, User ID and PIN, then click Test and save. Moibay asks Elavon to prepare a $1.00 card form to check the details. Nothing is charged.
  3. Make sure Show on invoices is ticked, then click Save settings.

Customers enter their card in Elavon's own secure window, and the invoice is marked paid once Elavon approves it. Your PIN is stored encrypted and never shown again.

6Interac e-Transfer

What you need: an email address for receiving e-Transfers. Canada only.

  1. In Payments & Accounting, find Interac e-Transfer.
  2. Type your e-Transfer email, for example [email protected].
  3. Make sure Show on invoices is ticked, then click Save settings.

Customers see your email, the amount and the invoice number to put in the message. When the money lands in your bank, open the invoice and record the payment.

Turn on Autodeposit in your online banking so customers do not need a security question. Our e-Transfer guide covers this and how to spot fake payment emails.

7PayPal

What you need: a PayPal account.

  1. In Payments & Accounting, find PayPal.
  2. Type your PayPal email or your PayPal.Me link, for example paypal.me/yourshop.
  3. Make sure Show on invoices is ticked, then click Save settings.

Customers see instructions to send the money to you on PayPal. When it arrives, open the invoice and record the payment.

8Check it before your customers do

Open the pay link on one of your own invoices. You see exactly what your customer sees, and you do not have to pay anything. Check that:

  • Every method you turned on shows up
  • Your e-Transfer email or PayPal address is spelled right
  • Pay later shows on a bill above your minimum

Something missing? Go back to Payments & Accounting, make sure Show on invoices is ticked, and click Save settings. Still stuck? Email [email protected].

Questions shops ask

Can I offer more than one payment method?

Yes. Every method you turn on shows on the invoice as its own option, and the customer picks one. Most shops offer card plus e-Transfer.

Who pays the processing fees?

Your shop does, the same as at your terminal. Stripe, Square and Elavon take their fee from each payment before it reaches your bank. Moibay does not add a fee on top.

Why did an invoice not get marked paid?

Card and pay later payments mark the invoice paid on their own. Interac e-Transfer and PayPal do not tell Moibay when money arrives, so check your bank or PayPal and record the payment on the invoice yourself.

My customers see Link or Apple Pay. Where does that come from?

Those are part of Stripe. Turn them on or off in your Stripe Dashboard under Settings, then Payment methods.

How do I check that everything works?

Open the pay link on one of your own invoices. You will see exactly what your customer sees, without paying anything.
